Wow, what an amazing day! The participants spent the majority of the day in the community of Pacifico De Villa and I think its safe to say that all the participants had a fantastic day. This morning we visited a health clinic just outside of the community. The clinic was developed by the Manager of SIA Peru, Javier and a dentist named Grasiella. The clinic was created to provide better service to people from the surrounding shanty town communities. We were given a tour of the clinic and learned about how it functions. The remainder of the day was spent enjoying the community of Pacifico De Villa.
In Pacifico De Villa we first visited an info fair that was being held to draw attention to a local campaign to secure a contract for a water treatment plant to build near Pacifico De Villa. By securing the contract it would provide jobs for members of the community but it would not lead Pacifico De Villa receiving running water. It was an interesting event that saw many private and public organizations disseminating information about water. We then attended the mass ceremony that was found to be very interesting for many participants who either had not attended mass before or who hadn’t ever attended a Spanish one.
In the afternoon we hiked to the top of the community to see the great view, participated in a welcoming ceremony were we tried some traditional cuisine and presented a song that we had worked on in the morning and we spent time playing with some of the children. This afternoon was so amazing that I have decided to just include some pictures to help illustrate what the experience was like.
“I was overwhelmed by [the communities] hospitality. As much as you want to say no to their offerings [because they have so little] you can’t because its so genuine.”
“One of the things that I found most enjoyable was seeing the same faces that I saw the previous year and continuing to build on those relationships”
